Species360 is a unique blend of a software company, non-profit organization, and global leader in wildlife care and conservation.

We are seeking an experienced Marketing and Communications Specialist with phenomenal communications and copywriting talents to manage internal and external communications.

We serve approximately 1,300 zoos, aquariums, and wildlife facilities in 101 countries with their animal management needs.  Our web-based technology platform, ZIMS (Zoological Information Management System) manages data on over 22,000 species and 10 million animals and including many that are threatened or even extinct in the wild.  Our Species360 Conservation Science Alliance uses that data to support animal care and wildlife conservation around the world.  

The focus of the Marketing and Communications Specialist is to create communications that demonstrate the significant species conservation impact and benefits from sharing wildlife care and welfare best practices. This includes building visibility and managing member-focused and external messaging – with the objective of communicating the value and benefits of Species360.  

Species360 is headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but embraces a fully remote workforce strategy, with a workforce located around the world.  Note: We require that our US employees are COVID-19 vaccinated.

About the Job

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies and initiatives
  • Design, write, and produce digital and print communications and create marketing materials (e.g., e-newsletters, blogs, social media, website)
  • Support community events such conferences and training workshops (e.g., posters, presentations, videos)
  • Build media relationships and handle requests for interviews, byline articles, etc.
  • Assist senior leadership in communicating strategies and messages
  • Develop marketing support for philanthropic fundraising

We are seeking candidates who are naturally inquisitive, demonstrate initiative, and work well independently.  Because our colleagues and members are based around the world, cross-cultural skills are a benefit.  Your creativity, listening, responsiveness, and time management skills will help you collaborate effectively with colleagues, members and external partners. 

Expected skills and experience:

  • 7 or more years of proven experience as a communications specialist in either a for-profit or non-profit setting
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in communications, marketing or a relevant field and/or equivalent experience
  • Web design and content production experience
  • Copywriting and solid editing skills
  • Basic graphic design skills
  • Demonstrated project management success
  • MS Office, WordPress, MailChimp, Adobe Illustrator, photo and video-editing software experience
  • Expertise in maximizing the effectiveness of social media
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong relationship-building skills inside and outside the organization
  • Outstanding organizational and planning abilities
  • Experience working with diverse cultural and international communities
