Animal care and conservation experts at BOS Foundation's Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Rehabilitation Center use ZIMS to record information…
As a Species360 conservation grant recipient, the Red Siskin Conservation Center (RSCC) at Leslie Pantin zoo will curate and husbandry data with international species survival program partners, including the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, Zoo Miami, Brevard Zoo, National Aviary in Pittsburgh, and members of WAZA, AZA, EAZA, ZAA (Australasia), Brazilian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZAB), and more. The RSCC was established in 2019 through a grant from AZA.
As zoo and aquarium staff worked from home due to COVID-19 closures, Species360 Member Support responded to record numbers of incoming calls, resolving 97 percent of inquiries, and earning a 4.9 (out of 5) satisfaction rating from members.
“Millions of unique samples are at the core of our ability to care for and save individual animals and species, now and far into the future. ZIMS vastly improves how the zoo, aquarium, and wildlife communities manage sample resources worldwide," said Paul Calle, Chief Veterinarian and Vice President for Health Programs, Wildlife Conservation Society.
A letter to Species360 members from Cheng Wen-Haur, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, provides an update on all that Species360 is doing to safeguard service levels and ensure financial health during the COVID-19 crisis.
Every month, Species360 rolls out new features and enhancements to ZIMS for Husbandry and Aquatics, ZIMS for Medical, and ZIMS for Studbooks. Here is look at this year's releases, and what is ahead for ZIMS for Husbandry.
As part of the global Species360 community, your teams contribute vital information on the animals in their care. That information is used by IUCN, CITES, and other conservation leaders, zoos, and aquariums worldwide to help improve the welfare of animals, advance medical treatments, and shape policies impacting species survival.
Wildlife care and management teams complete data entry in work from home situations, with ZIMS.
All ZIMS users have access to ZIMS in French -- as well as in English, Spanish, Russian, and Japanese - by choosing to change their language preference at the ZIMS Help menu.
